Combination Inspector Senior Level Combination Inspector This position requires approx. 10 years experience Palm Springs, California Full and Part Time 05/28/09

DUTIES INCLUDE:

• Under general direction, to inspect buildings and structures at various stages of construction, alteration and repair; to assist in the review of building plans and specifications; to enforce building, plumbing, electrical, mechanical codes.
• Positions in this class normally require prior building inspection experience.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Make field inspections of industrial, commercial and residential buildings during various stages of construction and remodeling.
• Ascertain conformance with California Building Codes. Explain and interpret requirements and restrictions. Keep records and prepare reports.

KNOWLEDGE OF:

• Building tools and materials, accepted safety standards, and methods of building construction.
• Possible defects and faults in construction.
• Building and related codes, specifically California Building Codes.
• Principles and techniques of building inspection work.

ABILITY TO:

• Make arithmetical calculations rapidly and accurately.
• Maintain cooperative working relations with builders, contractors and owners.
• Apply technical knowledge and follow proper inspection tech-niques to examine workmanship and materials, and detect deviations from plans, regulations and standard construction practices.
• Advise on standard construction methods and requirements.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

• Two years of responsible experience in a variety of building construction work or related inspection work.
• Possession of a valid Driver’s License.
• ICC Certification as a Building, Mechanical, and/or Plumbing Inspector or equivalent certifications.
• Applicant will be required to successfully pass drug testing program prior to placement or prior to commencement of work.
• Periodic drug testing may be performed at owner’s request.

PHYSICAL STANDARDS:

• This position requires frequent exposure to the weather and requires the ability to conduct duties in areas of unstable footing.
• Ability to lift 50 lbs., climb ladders, walk safely on uneven surfaces.
• Wearing of safety equipment (hardhat, hard toed shoes, safety vests, protective eyewear)
